SCLEROTHERAPY

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a simple effective procedure that safely removes thread veins from the Legs.

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to clot, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually disappears.

After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade and disappear within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take a month or more to see the full results.

More than one session is usually advised (2 - 5 Treatments is recommended).

What are Thread Veins?

Thread veins, also referred to as spider veins, can appear on the surface of the skin.

They can appear blue, purple or red in colour and are thin lines that look a little like a web or branch.

They are usually not painful or harmful but can be a cosmetic nuisance.

Thread veins are different from varicose veins which are larger and deeper, may appear lumpy or twisted and are usually flesh coloured or red.

Going home after treatment:

You will be able to drive yourself home after thread vein treatment.

You may need to wear compression stockings for up to two weeks after your treatment.

Most people return to normal daily activities the day of treatment. Ask your consultant about resuming exercise or your return to work.
