SCULPTRA

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

Typically a series of 2-4 treatments are required at intervals of 6-12 weeks between sessions. During the course of treatment at our skin clinic, collagen growth is stimulated. The results will usually last more than 2 years. We do not produce natural collagen after the age of 21, so people with more natural collagen will require less treatments and less viles of Sculptra in a session typically.

What results can I expect and are they immediate?

No the results are not immediate but give very natural results. Collagen is gradually stimulated over the course of 12 weeks and can require a number of treatments.

Some visible results can be seen over the first few weeks but Sculptra is designed to deliver maximum results over 2-4 sessions of treatment. Each session will provide more and more results. These results can last over 2 years patients often reporting a lot longer.

Can I have treatment on the same day as my consultation?

No you can not have Sculptra on the same day as your consultation as the product requires to be mixed ahead of time prior to treatment. We will require a minimum of 72 hours notice prior to an appointment to ensure we are able to adhere to the reconstitution guidelines.

Is it painful?

Sculptra is reconstituted with Lidocaine which is an anaesthetic used to prevent pain during the treatment. Some discomfort may be experienced however this is usually minimal.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after your treatment there is likely to be swelling, tenderness, itching, slight redness and bruisingaround the treated area. These side effects will subside after a few days. As discussed at your consultation, certain vitamins (E, fish oil) and medications will increase the likelihood of bruising/bleeding.

Treated areas can look uneven or bumpy for a few days following treatment, this could last for about 7 days. This is due to swelling which will subside. Massaging the area gently will help. The use of antihistamines and intermittent use of an ice pack is advised.

As with all injections, this procedure carries the risk of infection. The syringe used is sterile and precautions associated with injectable material have been taken. If you feel there may be an infection in or around the treated area contact Secret Looks and seek medical advice from your GP.

Rare side effects

Some patients may experience additional swelling, or tenderness at the injection site and in rare occasions pustules and granulomas may form. These reactions can last for as long as 2 weeks, and in appropriate cases may need to be treated with oral corticosteroids which can be prescribed. It is important to thoroughly massage the treated area daily for a minimum of 5 minutes to evenly distribute the product.

Contact your doctor immediatelyand inform Secret Looks if you develop any of the following: difficulty breathing/swallowing, food or liquid accidently going into your lungs, muscle weakness, hives, swelling(including face or throat), wheezing, feeling faint, shortness of breath(symptoms of allergic reaction).

If you experience pain, paleness, white tissue in the treated area or even away from the site, or a dusky, bluish skin tint; massage the area, apply heat and contact Secret Looks immediatelyto have treatment.

The correction effect of Sculptra diminishes over time. Many clients choose to be treated again after 12 weeks of the original treatment. To maintain the desired effects retreat at approximately 24 months.
